βοΈRebels
Backstory
The Rebels are a group of disaffected citizens of all species and creeds within Apelantia. They are not necessarily an organized group, which works both to their advantage and disadvantage.
On the one hand, the Rebels not having centralized leadership, yet, means that it is difficult for the Royals to snuff out their growing movement. Whenever one Rebel leader or influencer is found and sent to the Punishment Buildings, two more take their place, and with them, twenty other citizens shift their loyalties further to their cause.
The Rebels do have a base that is unknown to the Royals though. It is a simple Pub, located within the main city of Apelantia, in the seedy underbelly that Nobles and sympathizers of the Royals rarely tread. Within this pub, members of the Rebels gather to plan operations, discuss ways to sabotage the Royalsβ authority, and dream about what they will do to help the common folk once the yoke of the Royals is finally thrown off of their shoulders.
Beyond the hidden room within the Pub, the rebels have small headquarters dotting the various cities and townships across Apelantia. They are all secretive and difficult to access, hidden in places no Royal would look to find them. Only by being contacted and guided to them by a fellow Rebel can one hope to locate these hidden spots. If they were easy to find, they would already be destroyed.
They aim to free Apelantia from the Royals and their corruption. From there, they will take over the government, rallying it in service of those who had been taken advantage of. But, to do so, they must win their fight against the Royals, and that is not an easy task.
The Rebels are under-equipped, undertrained, and despite their growing support, undermanned compared to their Royal oppositions. What few scattered battles have taken place have resulted in many more Rebel casualties than Royal. However, every Rebel soldier is willing to take on great risks to free their land, and they are willing to lay down their life for the cause.
While this group mainly consists of proud and courageous citizens and dissidents, the actions of the ruling class have even led some minor members of the Royals to begin sympathizing with the Rebel cause. However, these Kind Royals, as they are called, lack the tenacity of the true Rebels. They believe that changes can be made through the government, rather than through an uprising.
But, the scars of the 1700s uprising are still fresh in the minds of the Rebels. They still hear the stories from those days about the atrocities that took place. They recall tales told to them by their grandparents and great-grandparents about their predecessors. There will be no peace until the Royals answer for their crimes and corruption.
Down with the Royals! Down with the Nobles! Rise up commoners of Apelantia! The time to rule yourselves has come!
