Backstory

The Mafia… a dastardly lot of criminals. Any self-respecting Ape does their best to avoid them when they can. However, as the corruption of the Royals increases, and the instability caused by the Rebels’ actions grows, the Mafia’s power expands. The more power they gain, the more influence they have, the more they can control, the more money they can make. For, that is all the Mafia truly cares about: money.

Originally, the Mafia were several criminal families that had varying influence over sections of Apelantia. They often fought each other in turf wars; violent clashes that left many Mafia members dead or imprisoned and often killed common folk and the unfortunate noble who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But, thirty years ago, the heads of the Mafia families finally came together and formed The Commission. Through this Commission, the most powerful mob bosses worked together to ensure that business flowed and the profits continued to soar. With their growing wealth and influence, thanks to this strange treaty, they have bought off powerful Royals and influential Rebels, ensuring that no matter which side ends up winning that conflict, the Mafia will come out stronger than ever.

Most Mafia members can be found in the Mafia Cafe, the cafe is a notorious two-floor venue revered for its exclusivity and strict rule: no blood shall be shed within its walls. This code transforms the cafe into a safe haven for high-ranking apes to conduct business securely. Violating this rule results in a district-wide blacklist and a bounty on the violator's head, making it a preferred gathering place for the Mafia’s elite.|

Many Mafia Bosses and Godfathers live in luxurious homes. VIP houses that even some members of the Royals would struggle to afford. In a way, the Mafia is a burgeoning new type of nobility. A new Royal family that refuses to adhere to the ancient customs the others cling to. Whatever they can do to grab power and money, they will do, whether that means schmoozing Silverbone’s, ripping off Oathbash members, funding Rebels, or killing whoever gets in their way.

Wealth and power come quick and easy with the Mafia. Some of them are even adored by the populace as roguish heroes. Those that are, relish such status, even if it may or may not be true.

The rich and easy life, that’s what the Mafia promises you… but at what cost?
